The role of a phlebotomy/electrocardiogram (EKG) in health care is important to accurately diagnose and treat patients. Graduates of this program can acquire the knowledge and technical skills needed to carry out specific duties that may include performing venipuncture by vacutainer, butterfly, and syringe methods; collecting capillary blood; performing electrocardiography with basic interpretation; and assisting with infection control, minor laboratory testing, medical record documentation, and data entry.
