Brightwood College Hosts Back to School Event

Brightwood Hosts Back to School Events

Brightwood College campuses across the country each hosted a Back to School event on Saturday, Aug. 5 to kick off the new school year. The events were free and open to the public. The community was invited to celebrate with games, activities, refreshments, campus tours and more. The events allowed guests to explore the programs offered through Brightwood College, and attendees were entered to win prizes, including Amazon gift cards and backpacks filled with school supplies.

“As summer comes to a close, we wanted to invite the community to celebrate the new academic year and all the possibilities it holds,” Brightwood College in Charlotte Campus President Tenika Glenn told South Charlotte Weekly.

Brightwood College in Beltsville invited the community to join staff and students for a cookout and ice cream, as well as lab demonstrations for Computer Networking Technology, Computer Support Technician, Electrical Technician and Medical Assistant programs.

Many campuses used the event as an opportunity to showcase the many program offerings available to members of the community seeking continued education or a new career path.

“It's a good opportunity for them to come and visit the campus and meet staff and faculty,” Brightwood College in Corpus Christi Director of Admissions John Ochoa told KrisTV.com. “Whether it be medical assistant, dental assistant, medical office specialist or vocational nursing, it gives them the opportunity to come in here and see it's very fast paced."

The Corpus Christi campus also demonstrated some of its program offerings by featuring free fluoride treatments, basic eye exams and hand washing technique demonstrations.

"When it comes more to teenage kids trying to go back to school, you know, it gives them the opportunity to come in here and also kind of look into what might be in store for them in the future," says Ochoa.

In addition to program demonstrations and information sessions about its available programs, Brightwood College in Brownsville offered guests crafts, movies, hotdogs, campus tours and financial aid overviews during their event.

The staff and faculty at the Brownsville campus also recognized that the weeks leading up to the start of a new school year can be especially stressful as parents rush to get their children prepared. In an effort to give parents a hand with these efforts, the campus hosted a school supplies drive, for which everyone was encouraged to bring and donate supplies.
